Here are the latest F1 driver penalty point standings following the French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard, with the stewards handing out some unwanted points.

Several drivers have quite a few penalty points to their name, putting them at risk of a race ban if they have a few more incidents.

Formula 1’s penalty points system is designed to keep the drivers’ behaviour on track in check, much like that of a normal road user trying to avoid getting points on their drivers’ licence.

In F1, penalty points are issued for driver transgressions, with the amount varying depending on the severity of the incident. If a driver accumulates 12 points over the course of a 12-month period, the driver will incur a one-race ban.

So far, in F1, no driver has fallen foul of this rule. However, in Formula 2, Amaury Cordeel was recently banned from the Silverstone round as a result of collecting 12 points in only six race weekends. That was the first ban since Mahaveer Raghunathan was barred from the…
